I was wondering if you have ever heard of Channel Vision?
Do you sell Channel Vision products?
I had a bad experience with Channel Plus.

do you have any tips for finding speakerwire in the ceiling using a tone device?

  4. admin on March 12th, 2009 12:41 pm

There are many ways to locate a wire though using a Toner Set ? Yes, We tone wires out all the time after the dry wall is up. Lets say we are tiring to find the audio wires for your Whole House Audio. The wires in question are located at a distribution point that I assume is a known location. Place the red & amp; Black clips
On a 2 conductor of a cat5 or Speaker wire, make sure the black & red clips are not touch each other, Then you simply flip the switch to TONE, take the probe and go to a logical location were a keypad may be, touch the probe to the wall and gently move it around, up & amp; down the location. It must be quite to hear the tone; you will hear a stronger tone once you hit the end of the cable. Mark the spot with blue painters tape then use a Retro Fit Low Voltage mud ring. Arlington or Carlton brand then pencil & level ring, dry wall saw it out. You should label the cat 5 back at the distribution location. Once you have the single gang hole cut out you will see the speaker wire. Same drill, this time you can twist the reds & black speaker wires together then place the red & black clips on the speaker wires so you can find both speakers on one tone then grab a ladder. Two ways to find the speaker tone…1) you assume were the speakers may be and gently touch the probe end to the ceiling or in wall? The strongest tone will be the end of the wire, almost to the exact end of the wire…place a piece of Blue painters tape to mark the spot.
    2) You start toning from the single box were the toner end is and trace each wire…#1 is quicker if you have logical knowledge of were the speaker wire may be.

Hi Tom, thank for all your help over the years. Everything is working great. I have one unused Zone already wired. I simply want to use an ipod (shuffle or standard) on a AB-301. Using a Red/White to 1/8″ jack from the ipod to the 301, will the sound be ok in my multizone system?

    Hey Pete,
Glad to hear all is well ! Yes, The Mini pin to RCA is used often and will work fine for the whole house audio. One interesting point, you may or will hear a difference between recorded MP3, recorded from a CD vs.. on line. You may notice one song a bit or very tinny, the next song will be sound just fine, that is the only quirky issue with MP3.

Is there a simple method to install a 110 outlet behind my flat screen without calling an electrician ? My A/V products are directly below the flat scree in a cabinet.

  10. admin on June 8th, 2009 6:25 pm

    HI john,
There is a very simple solution calledPowerBridge that is UL approved and you don’t even touch the existing electrical other than plugging a cord into an outlet.Basically there is 2 inverted 110 outlets with finished plate and 2 retro fit single gang boxes along with a power cord. You basically cut in a single gang hole behind the flat screen then cut another one preferable in the same bay, then you use a piece of Romex from the top box to the bottom box and simply plug the extension cord into an existing outlet…..Done !
